The 37th Annual International Conference on The Psychology of the Self Conference in Jerusalem

Jerusalem Conference Update
23rd July 2014
The recent and on-going hostilities in Israel/Gaza has evoked questions, worries and doubts in many of you regarding the feasibility of our upcoming 37th International Annual Conference in Jerusalem.
The organization president, the members of the Executive Board, and the conference chair are closely following the unfolding events and are aware of the U.S. State Department travel warning.
Our highest priority is the safety of each and every one of you; though we hope that things will be quieter by the time of our meeting in October, we are writing to reassure you that we will not hold the conference in Jerusalem unless we are absolutely certain that you will be safe traveling and attending the conference.
Since in Palestinian/Israeli terms three months is a very long time, we have agreed to defer a decision regarding the conference at least until mid-August. Meanwhile, we are considering creative alternatives, in case we are faced with a circumstance that prevents the conference from being held in Jerusalem.

The 37th Annual IAPSP International Conference: "Where Do We Feel At Home?: Self Psychological Perspectives on Belonging and Not Belonging" will be held in Jerusalem, Israel, Tuesday through Saturday, October 21-25, 2014. We cordially invite you to join us for a conference that will consider the multiple and, at times, contradictory aspects of belonging and not belonging in an attempt to address the challenging question: " Where do we feel at home?"
The conference will examine sociopolitical, psychosocial, interpersonal and intra-psychic aspects of ethnicity, community, religion, gender, and sexual orientation - amongst a range of possible dimensions affecting subjective experiences of belonging and not belonging. In this sense then, the conference will be looking at individual and group experiences of acceptance and feeling welcome, and/or experiences of rejection and exclusion. The conference will consist of Panel Presentations, with Faculty, Audience, and Post Panel Group Discussions. There will also be Workshops, Master Classes, and parallel Original Paper Presentations. With an additional program the conference will acknowledge and attempt to address the complex and painful religious and cultural struggles in the region.
