General Information
Welcome to Psychology of the Self Online, the interactive eJournal of
the new organization, the International Association for Psychoanalytic
Self Psychology. This eJournal is dedicated to the dissemination of self
psychologically informed ideas and to functioning as an interactive
connector for the international self psychology community. It is our
hope that Psychology of the Self Online will enhance the intellectual
excitement, creativity, and collegiality that exists within our
far-flung community. To accomplish this, www.psychologyoftheself.com
will engage the unique interactive
and multimedia qualities of the World Wide Web. In addition, this
eJournal will function as an electronic distributor for publications of
the International Association for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology. Self
Psychology News,
the IAPSP Annual Conference brochure, and IAPSP's
new quarterly journal, the International Journal of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology
all can be
accessed through this online eJournal. You will find icons on the
homepage and buttons in the navigator toolbar that will lead you to
these publications.
In addition, the eJournal includes: a section
devoted to the biography, audio recordings, and edited lectures of Heinz
Kohut; a
bibliography of self
psychological writings, compiled by Jill Gardner; a photo gallery of
pictures from the Annual Conferences and other
events that have occurred in the world wide self psychology community,
as well as a section dedicated to Distinguished Papers & Prizes. These papers
will include The Kohut Prize, a paper
competition for untenured academic people who apply Kohut's ideas to
their work, Kohut Memorial Lectures delivered at the annual meetings,
and other special lectures. A "Book Store" button will
take you to what the self psychology community is currently writing and
will provide you with a link to a site that will allow you to purchase
the book of your interest. Members of IAPSP will receive a 20% discount
on books purchased through this site.
Psychology of the Self Online will
engage cyber-discussions of timely papers and issues of current concern.
A teaching-journal section devoted to making self psychologically
informed education widely available, especially to people who are
"geographically disadvantaged" will eventually be added. As part of our
mission to enhance the creativity of our community, we will initiate an
interactive Writers' Workshop that will support, teach, and encourage
scholarly writing. We plan to post articles of 2500 words that come out
of the workshop as well as pieces written by the general community.
Access to online discussions, the teaching-journal,
and the writers' workshop will be limited to members of the newly formed
organization, The International Association for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology.
We also will post an international roster of self
psychologists that will list the interests and areas of expertise for
IAPSP member therapists, the languages they speak, and the regions they
serve. The roster will be serviced by a search engine that will make it
possible to easily find therapists who fit particular needs. Information and a
membership
application for IAPSP can be found on this site.
This
eJournal belongs to the self psychology community. Please use it freely.
We hope it will become a glue that helps hold our worldwide community
together. We invite your comments, suggestions or critiques. They all
will be taken seriously.
